Yesterday I've got mail call - a Yaqi Tuxedo synthetic 24mm brush. Since the brush is nice itself, today I decided to try it. I never used synthetic brushes till now and was curious, reading so many comments and reviews how great are they.

I've got good lather with hungarian barbon cream, can't complain about that, but still prefer my cheap pure badger brush. I simply can't understand the fuss about synthetics. 2 things I realized from shave :

1) the brush was too soft and sprayed lather all around when I create lather from cream (face lather)

2) the lather was good, but not that thick as from my badger (I use mostly cheap pure badger brushes like Shea moisture and VDH, lately Bevel). I much prefer also feeling of exfoliating on my skin from pure badgers.

What are your opinions about synthetics vs badgers? Thanks !

I came across this listing a while back. Saw it wasnt getting bid up. So I put in a bid and no one fought me for it. Hoping I can get a gem blade working in it.

It's me, Carl from MO.  I have been away a while, but I found the new TOST3 address.
For those that don't remember, I am from Missouri and I use vintage Schick injectors and an old 1912 pattern SE.  ...  (And "other thingies").  I tend to like the vintage razors.  All of the razors I own are way more than 50 years old.
I haven't posted much, but I still enjoy shaving on a regular basis.  Looking forward to reading the threads here, and posting whenever I have something to say.
I looked over the member list and saw some familiar folks here, which is good.  So, Hello everybody, good health and good shaves to all.

Like some of you I'm at the half century mark or more.  I recently became a caregiver to my parents.  My dad has Lewy Body Dementia and can't be on his own and mom ended up in the hospital with heart failure.   So I spent about three weeks there getting them through the short term needs with that.     

I'm back with my family now, but organized support for my parents and am making trips as necessary to get them to appt's and whatnot.  

Anyway, nice to check in here.  Though I haven't been posting, shaving has been a nice reprieve from all the "crap and stress" if you know what I mean.  Not that caring for my parents is crap, it's not.  They gave me everything, it's my turn to give back, but it is stressful and what they are going trough is crap.

i have been extremely lax posting here. For that I apologize. I have been on a razor creation bender this year. This is my latest and probably my favorite. 

Back story. 

A few months ago I was looking on EBay for vintage SE razors. A came across a beautiful looking wedge blade razor. The Fox. I bid on it and obviously lost not nearly enough money did I have. Well not to be defeated. I looked up the patent for it and set about making my own.

Now we all know how many Rolls Razors are out there. So I opted to design my razor around the Rolls blade. It has been my experience that a good amount of the Rolls blades are in excellent condition. I had 2 laying around. Then in a matter of 3 days I was able to acquire 5 more blades in separate purchases for a grand total of $42 including shipping Thus being able to make my 7 day set. 

 The design is very cool as it is adjustable.

I found a witch razor on eBay like this a while back. I didn't pick it up then because of the price. Can't wait to get this one. It has the case blades and blade banks. I hope I'll be able to modify gem blades to fit.

This is shave related because I use my rotary tool a lot in making brushes. I received an order of 20 rotary bits and had no place to store them. So, I got this idea to make a box to hold them and keep them safe. Here it is. There are 30 holes. I stuck in a few sanding cylinders that I had on hand, too.

Hi guys posted a photo of my premature baby a while back thought I'd give a little update. Aside from some stomach issues and not sleeping well at night she is doing very well and getting big. Starting to use her hands and try to rip of glasses and pull hair.
