  HERO brand razor problem
Posted by: Cleavep222 - 09-20-2020, 09:37 PM - Forum: Other SE brands. - Replies (8)

I recently bought this HERO brand SE razor, but find that when I load the blade, there is a tiny amount of play between the blade and blade stops.  I'm wondering if I could just bend the little brass colored lever forward just a bit to hold the blade tighter?

  Burham Safety Razor
Posted by: Jayaruh - 09-19-2020, 07:44 PM - Forum: Other SE brands. - Replies (9)

I found this Burham Safety Razor on eBay. Made in the USA, it indicates a July 6, 1909, patent date. First pictures are from the auction.

These next pictures are after I opened the package.

Then I got to work welcoming it into my den. I got it cleaned up with some Flitz Polish. That stuff is really good.

Then, I scanned the directions. I really like having original directions. I am looking forward to giving this razor a try.

What's wrong with people?
My minimum £5 offer (that's $6.40) was the only one.
Here's my third Hussy:

I blame the seller. The auction title was simply "Boxed Fashion Razor". It went straight under everyone else's radar.

  Schicktember 2020
Posted by: Flintstone - 09-01-2020, 01:56 AM - Forum: Schick Injectors - Replies (34)

Greetings all -- I thought I'd create this thread for those who are looking to focus and feature their Schicks during SEptember with a "Schicktember".  There's no need to exclusively focus on Schicks (which includes Eversharp, and let's include the Schick-inspired Pal Injectomatics); but when you do shave with a Schick, feel free to post it here!  My plan is to kick this off tomorrow with the first "Schick", the good Colonel's original Magazine Repeating Razor (the Type A).

harsh first shave with Gem blades
Posted by: joelkerr - 09-01-2020, 12:42 AM - Forum: Razor Blades - Replies (12)

Hi everyone,

I find that the first (and sometimes second) shave with a new Gem SE blade is always harsh for me. I expect it, so I plan accordingly (never use a new blade before an important event, and plan to not shave for at least 3 days afterwards). After the first or second shave, I can usually get around 20 more outstanding shaves from a blade before it starts to dull a little. I find this impressive, since I have a coarse beard.

Anyways, I'm curious if there's any way to avoid this initial harshness, that won't affect the longevity of the blade.

Thanks,
Joel

  Hello from New England

My name is Jason and I am from Vermont. I have been watching fuzzies videos and he told me to stop on over here. I’m 48 years old and new to this wet shaving adventure. I have a a couple of micromatics and a gem 1912. I started out with the 1912, then I got my first micromatic and I have been shaving everyday with it. Great shaves! I’m happy to be here and ask lots of questions. Thank you for the invite.

  SOTD - SEptember 2020
Posted by: Jayaruh - 08-31-2020, 10:41 PM - Forum: SOTD - Replies (126)

Here it is, folks. TOST3's favorite month, SEptember. I will be using only SE razors this month, and in fact, using 30 different SE razors. Here is tomorrow's lineup. Starting off with my OC Damasleene razor.

Tabac Shave Soap
Jayaruh #303
Gem Damaskeene OC
Personna GEM SS PTFE
Tabac ASB

Day 1 of SEptember. I plan to use a different SE razor each day of SEptember.

The Tabac Shave Soap face-lathered well with Jayaruh #303 Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Gem Damaskeene OC razor with a Personna GEM SS PTFE blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Tabac ASB. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

  A New Antique Shaving Box
Posted by: Jayaruh - 08-30-2020, 12:55 AM - Forum: Photo Gallery - Replies (12)

I saw a box like this in my search on the Internet. It is an antique design that I have copied. I used an old rough sawn cedar board to make the pieces. The first day, I made the box part of the box. Today, I worked on the lid, splitting it, hinging it, making and attaching the feet, and making and attaching the mirror. I still have to outfit it, but I intend to do an outside shave with it soon.
