  Razor Stand for 15 Razors
Posted by: Jayaruh - 06-04-2020, 08:21 PM - Forum: The Front Porch - Replies (6)

I just finished this stand for a shaver across the street. He wanted a stand with three rows of 5, so this is what I came up with.

Big Grin June Hauls
Posted by: GAW9576 - 06-04-2020, 04:14 PM - Forum: Catch of the day - Replies (40)

I went to the post office yesterday to send out a package. When I was leaving I noticed one of the local Antique stores was open. It happened to be the first day they reopened since everything that's been going on.
I had gone around about 3/4 of the store not seeing anything. Then there they were. 8 razors. I wasn't interested in 2 of them but the other 6 were calling me. I had a little cash in my wallet for just such an occasion. I had decided on 2 when the both owner walked up. I asked if he would reduce the price of the Schick because the handle was cracked. Even though the tag said firm he dropped the price. So figuring nothing ventured nothing gained I put the 6 razors I was was interested in all lined up on the shelf and asked if he'd make me a deal on the 6 together. He said $20 for those 6.
They were all priced $5 except 1 at $3 and the shick he had dropped to $3 from $5 because of the crack. So total price each worked out to $3.33.  Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin can't beat that for my first day back in an antique store.
Here are some pictures of 5 of the razors I can't post 1 of them.
I think the Schick is a type G but I'm terrible with remembering ID info so please verify or correct if that's the case.
I plan on making a custom handle for the Schick.

  The Clan of Catchers.

I had a great shave with my oldest SE. This Kampfe Star Lather catcher is a great razor and I love the way this bullet casing handle looks and feels on this razor. The casing is from the honor guard at my Grandfathers funeral. An unmentionable witch has a picture of a rifle on it was also involved. I figured it was a fitting combination.

  SOTD - June 2020

Tomorrow, I will be breaking out my AutoStrop VB1 to use the first five days of June. I like the AS razors, especially those that can use modified Gem blades.

I took the spine off the blade and nipped off the middle protrusion of the blade so it would fit in the AutoStrop holder.

  My First Shaving Scuttle
Posted by: Jayaruh - 05-31-2020, 02:24 PM - Forum: The Front Porch - Replies (2)

This is an antique original shaving mug marked "Old Foley" by James Kent ltd of Staffordshire England. I found it on ebay, and it will be my first (and maybe only) shaving scuttle. I just wanted one like this to represent old style shaving. Some of you guys know much more about these than I do. These would have been used before indoor plumbing. The bottom would hold water (hot or cold) while the cup on top would hold the soap. You would wet your brush in the water and then load it on top. However, my method would be to wet the brush and use it to wet my face. Then, I would take the soap and rub it on my face followed by building lather with the wet brush adding water if necessary. I am looking forward to getting this in my den and making a video with it. It will arrive by Saturday hopefully. I will post the video here.

  Schick New Improved (Type F)
Posted by: Flintstone - 05-28-2020, 03:59 AM - Forum: Schick Injectors - Replies (10)

This razor can be difficult to find as it was only in production for a limited time (several months between 1940 and 1941).  The shaves are smooth and it is an absolutely gorgeous razor.
