  I made a new handle
Posted by: Jayaruh - 07-01-2020, 11:59 PM - Forum: Photo Gallery - Replies (1)

I saw a similar one and wanted it, so I made this today. I will be taking it out for a spin for Sunday's Lather Catcher shave.

  Granddad's Blend After Shave
Posted by: Jayaruh - 06-30-2020, 04:11 PM - Forum: Aftershaves - Replies (2)

As it turns out, the wife likes this. I was running low on my Granddad's Blend After Shave, so I mixed up a new batch. Makes me proud to be a Granddad. I should be set for a while now. The recipe is:

Pinaud Clubman 50%
Aqua Velva Musk 45%
Pinaud Lilac Vegetal 5%

  Sharpening a Damaskeene Blade
Posted by: Jayaruh - 06-30-2020, 03:54 PM - Forum: Sharpening & Honing - Replies (7)

I use the Strand Safety Razor Blade Sharpener to sharpen a Damaskeene blade. Tom White sent me his sharpener to sharpen my blades. This video is the second blade I sharpened.

See it in action.

Here is the blade in my Open-faced Damaskeene razor.

Cold Water Rinse
Williams Mug Soap
Jayaruh #413 Two-band badger
GEM Flying Wing
GEM Stainless
CWR
Granddad's Blend AS

The Williams Mug Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #413 Two-band Badger Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the GEM Flying Wing with a GEM Stainless blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Granddad's Blend AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Information Lathering: the Froth method

I saw the video, and tried it.

This is my journey into the Froth method world.
http://ilrasoio.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=16982

The summary of my experience is that this method is inconvenient.
It does not bring advantages (initially hoped) on the yield, and is harmful especially for the most precious soaps.
On the other hand, since I have had good results in brushless mode, it can be a valid alternative in particular and emergency situations.

Shick Type H1 (Eversharp Fashion Razor)
Posted by: Flintstone - 06-25-2020, 10:26 PM - Forum: Schick Injectors - Replies (50)

I'm sure many more Type H1 users will be here to lavish praise on this excellent injector....it often comes with me as one of my travel razors, and it never-ever-EVER disappoints.  It's a smooth shaver and while the smallish squarish handle is a bit unorthodox, I find it easy to handle and shave with.  Here is a pic from a recent shave....the Prorarso Blue was a birthday gift from Tost (awesome cream) and the Yaqi Moka Express (synthetic knot) is also a favorite of mine.

P.S., I've heard even greater things about the H2 (the Debutante)....but they are MUCH more scarce, at least in my hunting grounds.

  Watches and watch restoration
Posted by: kyle3rv - 06-23-2020, 08:22 PM - Forum: The Front Porch - Replies (4)

Any more watches anyone wants to share. Also here a vintage Timex falcon eye I had serviced. It's from the late 70s. The movement was seized the watchmaker said it looked like water or moisture damage. It had been sitting in a pile of watches in the antique store for who knows how long. But a parts watch and 30 hours later they got it going. Really unique quartz and mechanical hybrid very fast beat rate giving a smooth second hand.

  Razor repair and Maintenance.
Posted by: GAW9576 - 06-21-2020, 01:25 PM - Forum: Razor Repair & Maintenance - No Replies

Well I tried having a very UK shave Friday. I got out my Made in England ER 1912 and my British Made Pal Injectomatic. Then I whipped up a fantastic lather with some UK based Wickham 1912 Irish Fern. This is my first use of Wickham and man this stuff smells great and lathers wonderfully. I loaded a 6th use Gem SS PTFE and started the shave with the ER. This is my second time using this razor. I took a few strokes and looked closely at the razor. I had heard the English/British ERs are more aggressive but this one is mild but I LOVE the handle. Anyway I looked closer and saw that the blade wasn't seated right. Readjust take a stroke look close. Not seated tight. Ok what gives well the blade is shifting all over. Grab my US made ER 1912 try things out, works perfect. Hmmmm. As far as I can tell the blade stops are bent up slightly making to much room for the blade to slip to far under them and making enough room for it to not get properly engage by the back clip. So do I adjust the blade stops? Or do I find a way to adjust the back clip push the blade forward further with would make it a more aggressive razor?

Anyways I finished up the rest of the shave with a pound in the US made ER. Results are a fantastic shave.
