  Wedge Razors
Posted by: Jayaruh - 09-19-2023, 05:42 PM - Forum: Other SE brands. - No Replies

I am a big fan of wedge razors. I like stropping the blades, and I always get a great shave with each. The first wedge razor I ever got was my J.A. Henckels Rapide (acquired January 2018). Tom White sharpened the wedge blade that came with it, and I have used it for years.

My next wedge razor is the C.V. Heljestrand (acquired in March 2018). Tom sharpened my Heljestrand wedge, too.

Then there is my 1902 Kampfe Brothers/Star Lather Catcher (acquired May 2019). It came with two Star wedges.

I have other lather catchers that will also use a wedge blade: Gem Junior 1905 (April 2017), Superior (May 2918), Gem Jr. Bar (October 2018), Ever-Ready (April 2019). I rotate through these on what I call Lather Catcher Sundays.

Finally, I acquired another J.A. Henckels that came with six blades.  I had the blades sharpened and sold the Henckels and two blades to Mickey in Layfaette, LA. He is happy and I am happy. I am set for life with wedge blades and some nice razors, too.

  My thread adapters
Posted by: GAW9576 - 09-18-2023, 12:47 PM - Forum: Blade Modifying - Replies (17)

These pictures show how the threaded adapters can be switched around for the 2 different size threads most common in SE razors. In the second picture you can see the smaller size thread. It can be screwed into a standard DE handle like this too and the smaller threads simply never engage or interfere with the handle thread. Also I recommend threading the adapter into the head first then attaching the handle to avoid the adapter getting threaded to deep into the handle. And lastly I never do this over the sink. I almost had one go down the drain once and learned my lesson.

  Stirling order.

I ordered some Stirling stuff.  I lived in Tucson with Oro Valley right beside it.  The scent profile for their Oro Valley looks awesome!  We will see soon!!! Big Grin
Edit** I ordered the bath soap along with a aftershave sample and shave soap sample.

Friday's Cold Water Shave

Cold Water Rinse
HC&C GunSinger Shave Soap
SlimGem Synthetic
Open Face Damaskeene
Personna GEM SS PTFE
CWR
Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Aqua Velva Iced Blue AS

The HC&C GunSinger Shave Soap lathered well with SlimGem Synthetic brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Open Face Damaskeene Razor and a Personna GEM SS PTFE Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Dickinson's Witch Hazel and then Aqua Velva Iced Blue AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

  Is There a Difference??
Posted by: poppi - 08-30-2023, 12:44 AM - Forum: GEM - Replies (1)

So I have noticed a big difference between shaving with my Star razor than shaving with my Gem razor.  When I examine them, I noticed that the Gem's blade guard is tilted up more than on the Star.  Is this common?  And my Damaskeene and Squat Head look like the Gem.  I only have the 1 Star so no other comparsons.  Please take a look at my lousy picture and tell me what you think please.  Oh, the Star is on the right and the Gem on the left.

  Bad Gem Blue Star blades
Posted by: CDinVT - 08-24-2023, 01:42 AM - Forum: Razor Blades - Replies (9)

I have had my fill of Gem blue star blades. I have had 2 dispensers from 2016 unopened every blade in the dispensers was bad .Rough as cob not even able to get trough the first pass , and rusting very quick took one out and left it on the bathroom counter for 10 mins to get a Schick injector to finish the shave and it was already staining were the water droplets were. I don't know if they mixed up 2 facet blades with 3, and can they be bad after only 7 years ? I have 4 more unopened dispensers Angry .I am ordering 100 pack of stainless PFE coated tomorrow when I get home .
