It's been a minute or two since I've been here. So, because of that let me say "Hello Again".

Over the past 11yrs I have found that I really like SE razors. I have a few DE razors that I very rarely use. I think I may have used one twice in the past seven years. I take them when I travel because I don't care if I loose them. Over the past 2yrs I have found myself gravitating away from injectables and more toward lather catchers, GEMs and the like. My blade of choice would be a Pal. I also like the razors that use the replaceable straight razor blades or artist club blades. I have one razor that I got new that I really like. It's called the "Colonel" or "General" or something like that. I like it because it's nice and heavy. I do not have any razors that have what looks like a piece of straight razor blade. Never got into it. I saw it as to much up-keep.

I only use soap and a brush. I have not used goo-in-a-can since finding wet shaving. No shame to those that still use it, it's just not for me.

I have 3 wooden test tube holders that I got of Amazon (I think) that I can store razors in that allow me to use razors in some type of order so that I do not use one razor more than the others. This allows me to set up razors for the next year and a half, 1 razor a month. I also have about 14 brushes. A lot of, more than I can use in my life time, soaps and after shaves. I use one set up a month. The same brush, soap, razor, and blade per month. It works for me. If I had to decide what set up I was going to use everyday, I would spend an hour standing in front of my shaving cabinet everyday and I don't shave everyday. I shave about twice a week.

This past March I picked up one of my ventage straight razors to give it a try again. Some important context here. I have a nerve disorder that make me shake. It is most noticeable in my hands and gets worse when I'm under stress. Not good for placing a sharp blade next to your throat. I'm right handed and have had bicep surgery to my right bicep. Because of the surgery I can not rotate my right wrist. I can and do shave with straight razors. I have now been shaving with straight razors for the past 3 months. All my straight razors are old/ventage. This month I started using a Bismarck razor with a narrower blade. I have found I like the taller blades.

All this has a last brought me to my questions to the group:

First and most important. Seeing how a straight razor only has 1 edge are they allowed here on Toast? I don't recall and I can't find anything for or against.

Has any body bought a factory new straight razor?

I have read online that the straight razors you buy now are not shave ready and need to be sharpened. Is this true?

Does anyone know/recommend someone who can sharpen/recondition straight razors?

Lastly the pass word to get into the range. I have some money sucking hobbies that I would like to talk about.

Being emboldened by Poppi’s (thanks Poppi!) reintroduction to the TOST franchise, I finally reached for ‘TOST3 - Fast and Fuzzy’. (Hi Fuzz!) It is nice to see the old walls have stood the blows of time and to see some faces I know from the past. I’m mostly a razor guy and do indeed enjoy any chance to “play razors” and get lost sorting and pondering the darn things. And with the incredible rebirth of hoe style razors and the endless categories of articles used to support a shave, there sure is lots to ponder!

And…… I already have a Reputation Point……. …….. Thanks Robin!! (Great to see you here!)

Hello,

I've bought a $20 butterfly razor 15 years ago and shaved using a face cloth and irish spring for lather. It did the job but I often went to work with toilet paper on the cuts. This past winter I started using Pears hand soap and a badger shaving brush. Then I got a 34c. I have used other shaving products but the 34c, some decent soap and a decent brush serves me well for my wants.
I kinda lost the group since the demise of TOST2. I hope to keep in touch this time.

I don't know how I got it, but some malware got into my computer. It was a popup that wouldn't let me do anything. It took 3 weeks to get a tech here to clear it out. I learned a few things during the outage. I learned how much I dislike virtual keyboards. Not as much as my dislike for phone keyboards though. I also learned that having to delete a hundred or more emails individually each day is the pits.
But my computer is up and running again.
