I understand the point of this but do not practice it. I really like the variety but don't usually spend a lot of time choosing what to use.

I do not have the discipline for this. I like the routine but the products change. My hats off to people who can actually pull it off. If I was stuck on a desert island I would be able to maybe.
Happy shaves to ya!

Interesting concept. I can’t say the thought process for selecting my shave gear for the day extends beyond the whim at that moment, though. I don’t see any consequences stemming from my choice, no reason to complicate things. In my case, I came to wet shaving due to frustration from lack of options with the usual mass market shave gear. Blue can of foam that smells like cheap deodorant or red can of gel that smells like cheap deodorant wasn’t cutting it Maybe that sways my opinion on the topic.

I could only do this with Williams as it was my only soap for about 25 years. I will still go on a binge of maybe 30 or so days. The rest of my den rarely sees two straight days at a time!!
good luck on your endeavor!!

I plan on making February a Williams and Aqua Velva Ice Blue for me. This is while I compare how many shaves I can get from a GEM blade and an unmentionable blade. 25 years with the same soap is a long time but if it works don't fix it right?

Good luck with the GEM test. I did a “GEM-ini” challenge several years ago. Twin GEM products from May 21 through June 21, a single Micromatic with a single blade. What did I learn? Well, just because a GEM blade *can* last 30 shaves doesn’t mean you should use it for 30 shaves

How many good shaves did you get from that test? I want to get a Micromatic some time soon.

To the best of my memory, it wasn’t until the shave count went over 20 when I started wondering what I was doing. The edge deterioration was noticeable, but never got to a point where I felt it was unusable or causing issues. The major realization of how dull it had become wasn’t until after I switched to a fresh blade and got that instant comparison of the very old and new blade performed. With those two sided sharpened metal sheets I hit a pretty defined point where they aren’t usable anymore of I go more than 3 or 4 shaves, but I never got that experience with the GEM.
If you don’t have any luck finding a cheap Micromatic let me know, I have a few spares sitting around waiting for a good home.

I am going to do that count and post it on the GEM board here. I will let you know. I am not ready for the Micromatic yet.
