Hey everyone! I’ve been mostly away from forums for quite some time, but find myself with more downtime at home than I know what to do with and have started poking around again. If you’ve been a SE user for a while you might recognize me, yes I’m that Mr. Guy. For those of you who aren’t the couple of guys to remember me (I really don’t think I’m memorable or important, just being silly), I’m a long time SE user and proponent, primarily OCMMs. Still use the open comb for the majority of shaves followed by other SE options, with the occasional DE to keep things interesting.
Big thanks go to ShadowsDad for reaching out on another forum to let me know you’re all here. Thank you
Andy

Wow, thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!
I really appreciate the kind words about my past involvement on the forums. Hopefully I’ll have something interesting to say here, as well I’ve also been working to put up some view-worthy content to YouTube again, for those who also remember the occasional video. Not specifically focused on SE, just doing what I think is fun at that moment. I’ve enjoyed the video editing process since I was in high school when I was rigging up VHS recorders and players to get it done. And as far as slow forums, that’s the way I like them
Apologies for not replying to each post individually, even though post count isn’t a thing I’ve ever cared about, I feel like a new post for each reply is “cheating” the system and my usual single post with multiple quotes style would have made this one even longer than it is now.

Well I’ll be! Very good to see you back Mr. Guy, it’s been a while. For those of you who weren’t around back when vintage shaving was just taking off this fellow had some of the first instructional videos on you tube in regards to shaving with vintage razors. The wet shaving community was very small then, with the SE portion of it being even smaller. There were no modern day versions of SEs. You had to use vintage razors found in the wild, for sale on the few shave forums out there, or for sale on e-bay. There was plenty to be had though. The skies rained $5 Micromatics and Shovelheads. 1912s were a dime a dozen. G Bars were so numerous you couldn’t walk down the street without tripping over them. Damaskenes were there for the asking. Everywhere you looked you saw “Lift Here”. Ah the good old days. But I digress. Anyway, even though the wet shaving community was small there was a very distinct difference of opinion about the GEM Micromatic Open Comb. People either loved it or hated it. It got so intense that most forum moderators would remove any thread that addressed Micromatics for fear that an opinionated post might incite an on-line riot. Mr. Guy was the most visible proponent for the Micromatic. He did it with a diplomacy that changed a lot of people’s way of thinking (except the Possum, God bless him). His videos were very instructive and informative. Heck, in one of them he balances a Micromatic on the tip of one finger and runs it down his face. He truly is “THE” authority on the Micromatic.
Well good to see you again Mr. Guy!

Alan, I think you might have me confused with some other, smarter and much more interesting guy
OK, kidding aside, thank you so much for the kind words! I definitely wasn’t the only person who got along with Micromatics back then, but yes we were quite the minority even among other SE users.
