Excited about this score Star razor in a The Gem case. Hoping it doesn't fall thru........Dated 1898 or 1899. Thanks for the info and heads up on it Jeff jmudrick
Nice catch. I may be just a little bit jealous.
Thanks ! There was some confusion about "The Gem" on the case. It is a match set and Star used different cases with some different names "The Gem was just one of them and it actually dates earlier than we first thought. Here's an ad from 1887 for The Gem putting this from 1887 to 1899.

Very nice. As far as I know my oldest safety razor is from 1900.

I have The Gem and the razor is an 1887 model. It came with 4 blades.

I was happy to find this old A2 locally as you don't see many Autostrops here in OZ.
It cleaned up pretty well. Better not tell these sellers about soap and water as they'll use it and put the prices up! The case might need something a bit more than soap and water if I get round to it.
All ready for tomorrow's shave.

Nah, we are locked down so it had to be posted. Only allowed out for work, exercise and essential shopping. I'll be popping out for an essential burger shortly.

Great razors and they look to be in excellent condition!
I have a Cru Steel, not as nice as that one, and it's a very good shave
