Direct Link To Individual Post
#1
Nearly all of us use the quote functionality whether we know it or not, particularly when we reply to someone's post. In addition to this feature, you may want to insert a link that to your post that allows for a user to click on it and go directly to the post you are referencing. This functionality will also allow you to use the same link if you wanted to post to another social media site or email somebody, for example if you wanted to tweet about a specific post on the forum. Below description with images is one way I found to accomplish this.

I'm going to use GAW9576's post #5 from this month's SotD thread as an example. Click here to see the post.

1) Go to the individual post that you want to link to and hover your pointer over the post # in the top right area of the post. Right click on the "#5" and a menu will appear. Click on "Copy Link".

2) Go to the post you are working on, click on the location in the post where you want the link to go (inserts the blinking text cursor) and click on the "Insert a link" icon, which is a little more than halfway across the bottom tool bar. A box will pop up.

3) Click in the text field below "URL:", right click and select paste. There are many different ways to paste, for example Control-V or Command-V. Then in the "Description (optional):" text field, you can type the text you want to be added that will be a hyperlink. For this example, I used "Click here to see the post." Click on the "Insert" button.

4) And you can see the outcome below and the actual link above. I captured screenshots along the way. If you scroll back up to the top of this post, you can click on the hyperlink "Click here to see this post." and it will take you to the individual post.

5) Here is an image of my recent tweet where I pasted the link to the Greg's post. Greg, I hope you don't mind that I used your post and image as an example...I enjoyed it very much!

Right click on that number and then click "copy link address", then just drop that directly into the message box, like this.

Boar brushes, brass razors, and hard pucks ARE traditional wet shaving. Everything else is modern day fluff for the girly men.

Out of curiosity I tried pasting a photo url the same way, but it just linked to the original source.

Anyway. just copy and paste the url directly in the box with no other steps for an individual post.

Sure, both ways work. I'm just trying to show different functions that are available on the forum. Not sure if anyone knows of them or needs them, but I thought I'd share some things I figured out that I will be using in the near future.

BTW...to make a photo url post properly, click on the insert an image icon on the toolbar then paste your photo url and click the insert button. This is how I post my images.

Big Grin
Also clicking on the little green arrow in a quoted post will take you to that post.
And I don't mind that you used my post as an example. It's not the first time I've been made an example.  Big Grin

Gotcha...I see your edit now. One of my Japanese twitter shaving buddies liked my tweet with your image!  Big Grin They appear to really be into their unmentionable steel razors and stones. At least as I can best understand from Twitter's translate tweet function!
