I get around 11-12 shaves out of an SS and much less out of a carbon. Something like 5 to 7 I believe for carbons.

I've tried both the carbon, and the stainless. Truthfully, after the 1st shave, I couldn't tell you which one was which.
A couple of guys will strip the blade on thier blue jeans just to take the harshness off. May give that a try. My GEM 1912 arrives on Jan 21 according to the estimate. I would like it to come in sooner than that so I can set up my shaving test I will be doing. I might need to get myself some more Williams mug as well. Big fan of that soap.
