The Van Der Hagen Luxury Shave Soap lathered well with the Jayaruh #424 Synthetic Brush. Two passes and touch ups with the 47 Unmentionablet Razor with an Unmentionable Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Humphrey's Witch Hazel and Lustray Spice After Shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

I was looking at those the other day at Your Shaving. Do you have the 50/50 or Extra Soft horse knot? I'm assuming the 50/50 has some soft and firm hairs, kind of like the Semogue Mistura is 50/50 with boar/badger. How do you like it?

Horse knots are a mixture of mane and tail hair, the mane is softer and the tail is coarser.  The ratio is as a whole makes the knot--some makers make coarse knots and some make softer knots.  Vie Long horse knots seem to have more tail hair than mane hair, Zenith knots seem to be the opposite and are much softer.  My Virginia Seng knot has about 80% mane hair and is my favorite.  Unfortunately she does not make horse knots anymore because she cannot procure the quality material she desires.  I do not have any hybrid(mixed horse/boar or badger/boar) as I like take my boars "neat"!!  You have to be the judge of a brush, some people like lots of "scritch" and some do not.  All knots regardless of material, vary in their makeup, so you just have to try them out.  There is even quite a bit of difference in synthetic knots.  One big contributer of the knots character is the loft, which to me makes more difference than the actual diameter.  Some companies make dense knots and some make looser knots.  This all sounds confusing but it isn't.  If you have a brush you like regardless which brand or bristle or hair and want to try another brush of a different bristle or hair-look for a knot similar to the one you already have and like.  I hope this helps you a bit.

I had a fantastic shave this morning with the Schick G that I made a custom handle for. This razor is more efficient than my other G by a fair bit. The Mer Shaving  Fougère Orange leathered well with the RazoRock boar and paired well with the scent of the Lucky Tiger.
