Interesting, but to me the first shave was fine. It was smooth and not harsh at all. Since I have not use Carbon Steel blades then that means that I do not have a point of comparison.

I find that starting with a milder razor like a 1912 for the first 4 shaves or so takes the place of stropping. But we do what works for ourselves. After those first shaves they get moved to a more aggressive razor. My fav' being a Shovelhead, but not shaving every day the Shovelhead couldn't handle the cutoffs.

The only irritation I can see is from not shaving yesterday and having my face itch as well as irritation from a shave where I chased BBS. I always heard that the first shave is harsh from these blades but I did not get that. I could not take a picture but will post it today. So the shave was this: GEM 1912, GEM SS Personna Blade, Williams Mug Shaving soap, Jayaruh #365, Aqua Velva Ice Blue, and Nivea Shaving Balm. I think my technique was pretty good this shave. No pressure on the razor and what I think perfect angle is for a SE which is almost flat to the face. This was DFS for me.
Off to a good start. I will break out my favorite G3 set 1912 for my shave tomorrow! Looking forward to seeing your post!!!
Happy shaves to ya!

I watched the video after asking the question. I guess I should have watched first.
I have a 1912 with that same handle. Unfortunately I don't have the cool case to go with it.

It is a very nice case to have. I do not have an extra right now. I will keep my eyes open for one.

That handle is interesting. I have never seen one like that.
Second shave with the blade. I went against the grain and for some reason felt it tug a little on that pass. Over all good shave with the GEM 1912 on 2 shave.
