Somebody asked me that question only about two weeks ago and I had no answer and have been stumped since then! I realized that I have never thought about that really.
Favourite? There are so many different razors (and I have not used any single edge modern razors - nothing since the HFT maybe!) that contribute so many different things I struggle with ranking them. I think I have enjoyed using pretty much everything. (Although one day I’m hoping I might convince you to do a pass around with your original razor on a wire! Now that is a new design I would love to try out! I can smell the left over focus on it from here!)
I still think I love a short handle then fall in love again with a two piece tubular only to later pine for using an 1884 Kampfe short weiner handle. I think I really appreciate a light handle then I’m off grabbing something with weight. Then where do you want center of balance - high, mid, low? I’ve modified handles to change the weight distribution and still can’t make up my mind. Then there is the issue of blade gap and exposure - but when tossed in with angle of shave and type of blade, the variables leave me stymied again. Do I want lather catching? Open combs, closed? Solid bar, heavy bar light bar, wide bar, narrow bar, smooth bar, striated bar, toothed bar, wire bar, drilled bar, machined bar…….. Really Fuzzy? You ask such a question of me? Just playing with ya. But I still don’t know.
On slate today is blade stacking in a shake sharp. I don’t get it. Two blades stuck together. Really? How does that make sense? But, I am done trying to reason it out and have decided to just shave it out! A few years shaking my head and today is finally it. Folks write ‘my favorite ever…shake sharp….double blades…..”. Who am I to judge without trying? I still don’t get it though. But hey! Perhaps tomorrow I can name a favorite for ya!
