It ranks right up there with flipping blades and bowl lathering with cold water. More a shot twhite as he has heard all the rants.....
Ahh. I get it now. The shim is actually on top to hold the blade from moving around. The razor was designed for blades with a thicker spine that also didn't have the notches on the sides. So the new blades rattle around if the shim isn't used in the razors current condition. It would be unusable without it or tweaking the tabs inside risking breaking it. I wanted to shave with it at least a few times before thinking about risking breaking it.
