I'll start a thread here, as it seems the appropriate place (other than the SOTD threads). I plan to learn how to use a single edge unmentionable starting in January. Also, I have been getting my bestest shaves with single edge razors, most of which are vintage GEMs and Schick injectors. As I learn a new skill, all advice is start slow and only 1 pass. I am toying with using mostly GEMs, as I have a few and really, really like them! While shaving the yesterday with the 100+ year old GEM Damaskeene, "GEMuary" popped into my noggin and stuck there. DecemBoar has been a lot of fun, so I may do many shaves in January using a GEM or Sabre as the main tool after my lesson. If I do, I will post them here unless mods think it is more appropriate to be in the SOTD thread. I won't do both.

I remember discovering GEM razors circa 2018. My first two were a jr and Micromatic. I remember getting a blade sampler including a blue carbon....ouch!! Anyway, I soon became a nationally recognized cheer leader....LOL!!
You thread will do nothing but allow others to know about these wonderful old blade holders. Merry Holidays!!

It's a great idea. I'd do it with you but I've already committed to using injectors in January. I haven't thought of a name for it but it's the same premise. Taking the time to learn as much as possible and improve technique. I have some really great razors that deserve the attention.

I tried my first blue carbon yesterday. It was great once the irritation subsided about 8 hours later. I will say that it was a very close shave and I didn't draw blood. I take it they don't get any better with subsequent uses?

Perfect! Maybe I'll do that instead!
