Since I am in Europe, I have limited access to all GEM models, but I have a few - MMOC, Clog pruf, Featherweight
I love open comb Micromatics, because of efficiency and easy for use. I know some people find them too aggressive, but with good technique shave should be fine.
So, who is your favorite GEM model and why?

I'm new to GEM razor and am trying to figure out which ones to get. I've read good things about the GEM Junior Bar. And thought I'd get one of those. But it dawned on me that the GEM Junior and Gem Junior Bar are two different razor. The first being a variation of the 1912 and the second being a lather catcher that can accommodate both wedge blades and newer GEM style blades.

Are there any similarities in how these shave or is the Junior nomenclature the only thing they have in common?

Pictures for reference. Not mine.

Hello!

I have tried to find info on these two razor but I could not find enough comparisons to tilt in favor of either version. Thought I'd try my luck here. Out of those who have tried both versions (old version with 12 nibs and newversion with 17 nibs on the safety bar), do you find any difference in how they shave? Is one smoother or more comfortable than the other? More efficient perhaps?

Appreciate all the input I can get.
I am toying with using mostly GEMs, as I have a few and really, really like them! While shaving the yesterday with the 100+ year old GEM Damaskeene, "GEMuary" popped into my noggin and stuck there. DecemBoar has been a lot of fun, so I may do many shaves in January using a GEM or Sabre as the main tool after my lesson. If I do, I will post them here unless mods think it is more appropriate to be in the SOTD thread. I won't do both.

Some background first. I believe that great enabler good friend Dave in KY helped me discover the single edge goodness. I like mild razors, unmentionable or single edge. Dave had posted about the Parker adjustable injector being a bit too mild for him, and after some PMs, it was head my way. Wow, it liked it. A lot. And went hunting for a Schick Type M. Acquired one and liked it so much, I added a Type G, especially since Cary Grant in Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream Home shaved with an injector. Dave lent me a bunch of GEMs, and said something like, "oh look, the Blackland Sabre fell in the box!" This was early this year, and I became hooked on single edge razors.

Back to the present. While participating in SEptember on a couple of sites, someone posted a SOTD with a Contour, and there was discussion on it being mild. I searched, and yes, threads supported that. And it seemed that they weren't always on the BST or eBay in the quantities of injectors. So I had to wait a little bit until one turned up.

I have shaved with it a couple of times, and just love the easy shaves I get. And they do last long enough to get me through an 8 hour day with a mask on. So without further ado, here are a couple of photos, sort of my SOTD. Not as elegant or artistic as some, as it is more of a record of the what I used.

Anyone care to join me?

So, in 2018 I started a thread somewhere else in a land far away.

I did it because I had discovered an amazing razor for which everyone here has forgotten more than I will know, but it was transformational. A circa 1930 blade holder that out performed any other type in performance and the TTO was pretty much bomb proof. While many versions exist, the BMMOC remains my favorite.

Thanks to my friends <dvz_me_placeholder id="0" /> and <dvz_me_placeholder id="1" />, I discovered this forum. And also to their credit, they continued to tell others about these wonderful shaving tools.

My Kindest Regards.
