Wedge blade adapter for Torrey safety razor - GAW9576 - 05-08-2024

I suppose this is the best place to post this.
I finished making this spring bronze wedge blade adapter to hold a modern                 Gem blade for my Torrey Safety razor today.

That seems to be a great idea. You have essentially made a wedge blade yes? Have you shaved with it? Does it hold stable? It would be good to have a couple of pics of the blade out of the frame when you have time. Nice work! The holes are to assist with drainage?

Sweeeet razor. I have lusted after one for many years now.

My Torrey has a wider blade than normal, did you cut down an AC blade? I fiddled something out of plastic with a cut down AC blade, but it didn't shave all that well.

It would only let me post 5 pics in one post.

Anyway. It is a carrier for a Gem blade. You can see that the carrier is a little wider than the blade. This makes it fit the Torrey. The blade still lines up with the guard on the razor well though. The holes were to reduce the strength of the spring clamping force and to alow drainage. Plus they look cool. The notches on the outside edge of the back of the spine make it easier to adjust the blade in the carrier and to push it part way out when removing it. The front edge of the carrier isn't quite straight, it makes it look like the blade is in a little crooked, but it's not. It held the blade in place really well and the shave was fantastic. Very similar to a Gem Junior bar with a modern Gem blade. This is a proof of concept for me so it's a little rough but functioned very well. I will probably make another one and work on the fit and finish more on the next one. With my fairly basic tools this was a lot of work to make. I would probably make a few changes if I make another one. But overall I'm really happy with how this one turned out even with its imperfections.

That is a great way to make a fitted wedge blade with a Gem. Great idea - and kudos for carrying it through.
I’m glad to hear you had a wonderful shave with your Torrey. Well done!
You need more of those rubber worms!

I have another already. A Wilkinson that doesn't fit a Gem blade.
