RE: SOTD - November 2021 - Old Sarge - 11-12-2021 ![]() Triceratops Thursday in November/Mitchells Wool “Fat” Friday! Cold Water Shave Pre: Neutrogena Soap Face Wash, Noxzema Cream as Pre Shave Razor: Triceratops 3D Printed Blade: Gem SS PTFE (8th Use) Brush: Jayaruh #403 Lather: MWF, Face Lathered Post: Osma Alum Block, T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel, Aqua Velva Musk, Nivea Sensitive Balm Greetings, Everyone! We were out and about before sunrise till after sundown yesterday and upon return I didn't have the energy for a shave. My streak ended at 53 days. I begin anew at Day 1! ![]() I carried over Triceratops Thursday to combine with MWF "Fat" Friday. I was wondering how the shave would go considering two days growth, the ultra light razor and a blade on it's 8th use. As I progressed through all three passes, it was going well so I decided to chase the shave and ended with the closest, least irritating shave since beginning wet shaving. The day's rest for my skin allowed me to be super aggressive, in combination with the light razor that actually ends up allowing me to better regulate the amount of desired pressure. Face lathering with MWF and Jayaruh #403 went very well! I did a better job of working enough water into the lather so it didn't dry out during the pass. Since watching Dave in KY's videos, I've started to use the j-hook technique under my left jawline and on a portion of my neck. A couple of times the Triceratops unscrewed itself, but I caught it before anything bad happened. Just something I'll have to pay attention to in the future. Hope everybody has a great weekend! I wonder if there's any way to make the threads a little tighter so it requires some force to turn thereby keeping it from coming unscrewed when you don't expect it. Maybe a piece of plumbing tape would work. I try to be careful not to over tighten considering the material. To insert and remove the blade you have to unscrew the handle a bit. The blade slides in and then has to rotate upwards so that the tabs on the blade fit around stops. Are you talking about teflon tape? It might work, but might also have to be reapplied. I like to remove my blades from my razors and store separately, so I'm all about screwing and unscrewing! Have you seen Jayaruh's video? If not, here is a link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNcLw8bRkbA He also has another video showing loading of a injector blade. I believe there are a couple of shave videos with the razor as well. Jim does a real nice job! Earlier shave but took the photo when I got home from a chili cook off. I LOVE the scent and performance of this soap and matching aftershave splash. And I'm getting much better results with boar brushes now. I still really like badger brushes but I'm seriously thinking about picking up a copper handled Zenith boar soon. Maybe a piece of plumbing tape would work. Not sure how that would impact the top of the handle securing the blade against the top of the head? I vaguely recall reading a post maybe by twhite where he used a shim as there was some issue with the material wearing. Every time I tighten the handle, in the back of my mind I think...not too tight. It would be interesting to know how this 3D printed material holds up over time. I don't have that particular razor so I didn't think of the blade clamping. But now I remember you said the thread from the handle is Involved in the blade clamping. The o-ring idea might not work then. I had one 3D printed razor wear out but I used it a lot and it was a lower quality print a friend did for free so not a good measure of durability.
